A change in the line up

Guess what? I’m running a marathon in 10 days.
When I started Pacing in Pink, my original intention was to run only officially registered marathons. However, due to schedule conflicts and health concerns, I needed to make some changes. So I’m taking one of our local races, Cow Bay’s 25km Moose Run, and adding 17km to it. The other big news is that my fourth marathon next month is going to be the Rock 'n Roll Madrid Marathon in Spain! I don't know anything about the Rock 'n Roll marathon series, but apparently there are bands EVERYWHERE! I'mma DANCE my way to the finish line!
The decision came after that recent trip to the doctor (more on that later) and a realization that went something like this:
stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress
stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress
stress stress stress stress stress stress wait…. It’s MY frickin’ dream and I can do it however I want!!!
Cue the dramatics.
I think somewhere along the line, I was concerned that someone might actually care that the Moose Run wasn’t a registered marathon and call me on it. You may even be thinking that now. I’ll have no bib number and my time won’t be recorded (thank GOD) and I’ll be the only one out there after the others have all gone home or out for brunch (jerks.)
I think this is a sensible decision. (Mark laughed when he read that word in MY blog. Seems the two of us don’t belong in the same sentence.)
First of all, it means I get to run a marathon in March. I was looking so hard for so long trying to find one that didn’t involve me spending big bucks on travel. That doesn’t seem right. I’m trying to raise money, not spend it. Or have me running one zillion laps at an indoor marathon in Sherbrooke. Gross.
Second of all, it means more recovery time between races. ‘Nuff said.
Third of all, “when in Rome, do as the Romans.” Only I’ll be in SPAIN! Ah, that magical moment when you’ve just finished up a ten day, 1200km training camp on a bike only to discover there’s a marathon happening the next day in a city 2 hours away by high-speed train. We’ve all been there, right girls?
So to sum up:
A) There will be a March marathon but it’s “only” a 25km race so I’ll have to add on 17km afterwards. (I can’t do it before, because if I finish early then I’ll have to stand around waiting for the 25km to start and marathoners typically don’t take long breaks between the 17th and 18th kilometer. Frickin’ elitists.)
B) If you fight me on this whole “but it’s not a real marathon” thing, I’ll fight you.
C) I’m going to Spain!!!
